About the Make:able Design Challenge

For the past five years, MatterHackers has proudly partnered with the Make:able Design Challenge, an annual and free event that welcomes anyone interested in assistive technology—be they students, makers, or professionals. Since its inception in 2020, Make:able has brought together over 10,000 participants from more than 70 countries to design and create custom assistive devices for individuals with disabilities and the elderly. Participants are encouraged to form teams of up to five members to "Design and make a 3D printed product or prototype that improves the day-to-day life of someone with a disability or the elderly." These teams can then showcase their innovative solutions and stories in a 2-4 minute video submission, competing for exciting prizes like 3D printers, 3D scanners, filament, and more.

Make:able is designed to be more than just a competition; it offers an online toolkit that provides a step-by-step learning experience to guide participants in designing and creating assistive devices. For educators, there’s a comprehensive teacher’s pack available, complete with example lesson plans, curriculum alignment documents, and additional resources.
