This Door Handle Adapter was created by Sarah Flora at Geisinger Medical Center. The model was specifically requested by her and her staff to help alleviate the spread of COVID-19 and other germs.

While respiratory droplets are the most common forms of transmission for Covid-19, we should not disregard the fact that surface transmission is still very possible.

Over the course of a day, door handles come into physical contact with many different hands, especially in public spaces. This frequently touched object makes it vulnerable to sheltering microbes. To reduce the possibility of spread through surface contact via door handles, this door handle adapter will change the method of opening doors using elbows as opposed to hands. By switching the point of contact to the elbow, no germs transfer to the hand and no further spreading of the germ(s) will occur to other surfaces, objects, and people that it comes into contact with.

Right now, the door handles on hospitals are huge hotspots for the virus and our healthcare workers are running low on gloves. Help our essential workers, as well as patients, reduce the risk of Covid-19 and other germ transmissions by 3D printing this door adapter today.
