Never worry about PVA sticking to the nozzle again

The nozzles included with the 3D Solex Printcore Support Core feature a slippery coating that prevents any filament from sticking to the nozzle and degrading the quality of extrusion or clogging the nozzle. Having accurately printed support material is important in order for it to provide adequate support for the rest of the print.  The benefit of a larger nozzle size is the ability to print faster, but with slightly less definition. This is perfect for support material because surface definition isn't important to the success of the print.

How to swap the different nozzles

The number one rule when changing 3D printer nozzles is to always do so with the hotend heated. Trying to change nozzles cold will always lead to broken components and broken hearts. Changing nozzles on the Printcore is interesting as you need to have the print core removed from the machine to do the swap. Here is the procedure for correctly changing nozzles without damaging any components:

  1. Ensure the nozzle is clean by performing a cold pull on the print core
  2. Heat the Print Core to 160°C
  3. Shut the Ultimaker 3 down using the switch on the back
  4. Remove the Printcore - BE CAREFUL - the core is heated at this stage
  5. Mount the core in the included jig and ensure the heater block is seated in the square wrench
  6. Using the included nozzle wrench, remove the nozzle from the heater block - being very careful with the hot components
  7. Install the new nozzle and tighten it down with the nozzle wrench
  8. You're done! Be sure to update your slicer settings with the new nozzle size!

The Solex BB core can fit AA nozzles. Does this effectively change it to an AA core? This is another question, following from my above question about using a BB core for PLA. Since as far as I can tell, the only difference between AA and BB is the nozzle design, and since ***with Solex you can change the nozzles***, is this effectively a way to change back and forth between AA and BB configurations with a single Solex core? I am interested because I own both a Solex AA and BB core, and want to maximize interchangeability for maintenance purposes (i.e., "up-time"). Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am duplicate-posting this question here from the OEM BB core area, because I think the question probably belongs here (too?) ***why*** is the BB core not compatible with any other material? Specifically, if the internal nozzle shape is the only difference, the electronics & thermal sensor are the same (except for identifying itself as "BB"), then how come I cannot just buy BB cores for everything (especially if they are the expensive ruby/saphire kind)? Not an idle question. Ultimaker has made a statement about incompatibility without revealing specifics to justify it, and I actually *do* want to use my BB core for not-PVA because of the trouble I've had with Ultimaker-branded PVA, and also because I want the additional inventory flexibility. Cores are, after all, considered consumables by the OEM. Please, please, provide some insight if you can obtain some! Thanks, Mike
