VORON TAP KIT
NOZZLE-BASED Z-PROBING
The Voron Tap Kit upgrade is an alternate Z-probe sensor method for the Voron 2.4R2 and Voron Trident. Using a rail, magnets, and sensor, the entire toolhead moves to trigger an optical switch.
Key Features of the Voron Tap Kit:
- Can measure your Z position with a precision of 0.4 μm (0.0004mm)
- Compatible with any build surface, minimizing need to recalibrate after changing nozzles or build plates
- Safely operates at up to 100°C and will not degrade over time like a contact switch or inductive probe
- Uses a single ‘activate_gcode’ macro in the [probe] config to provide consistent probing temperatures
- Breaks away on extreme crashes, saving you from hidden breakage elsewhere
- The nozzle and bed are protected from minor crashes
- No need for a separate Z endstop
- Printed parts are included
Compatibility Requirements
Please Ensure Your Voron 2.4R2 / Voron Trident meet the following requirements:
- Fix known mechanical issues on your printer BEFORE attempting Tap
- Have a MGN12 based X-Axis
- (MGN9 based X-axis is NOT compatible)
- Use ClockWork2 (CW2) Style Mounted Extruder
- Will NOT work with ClockWork1 (CW1)
- Mounts for LGX and Galileo are available
- Bed Mount must be secured

Questions
My kit received on 3/18/23 has the OPB971 sensor on it, which is the 70c sensor, NOT the OPB666N which is the one rated to 100c. Shouldn't be a problem for most users but worth pointing out.
What filament type is used in the base kit? I ask because there is an option for Voron printed ABS parts.....
will this work with the Voron Switchwire?
What is the connector included with this. The Extra does not seem to be either JST XH or JST PH? Also I thought the kit was suppose include printed parts? Mine did not.
Is the optotap pcb provided with this kit the updated version 2.4 thats been recently updated by the Voron team to address the fire hazard?
Just received the kit on 3/15/23 and it included the v2.1 revision of the PBC, that said it does appear to have a prebuilt resistor harness that would possibly concur with the interim “fix” before v2.4 was released but still…
Just got mine 7/13/23 and the PCB is version 2.4.1 - which is the latest version to date.
