David has a background in real-time systems programming and has been teaching STEM subjects for 17 years, mainly computing, but more recently engineering. He is also an instructor of karate and guitar building (which also includes the Zen of Guitar Building). His passion for teaching comes from a love of technology and a general interest in all things that light up, move or do something useful and then finding some sort of educational justification for making a class out of it, he believes that education should be dynamic and continually updated. Originally from the UK but has worked internationally for nearly half of this time, David has been a MatterHackers Education Ambassador since 2020.

Make:able 3D Printing Assistive Device Design Challenge

David Williams is one of many inspiring educators taking part in the Make:able Design Challenge that engages students to develop empathy, learn additive manufacturing skills, and gain real-life experience in product development, an essential skill for the future of manufacturing careers. The goal of this challenge is to design and make a product or prototype that improves the day-to-day life of someone who struggles with mobility in their hands. 

The challenge is open to all students in any country up to the age of 18, and teachers can register for free to access the teacher's pack and challenge toolkit. The deadline to submit your completed project is April 1st, 2021.
