SMART MATERIAL MANAGEMENT
The Bambu AMS uses an astute algorithm with its sensors and actuators to intelligently feed and retract filament as well as keep you informed on the status of your filament (if you're out, it's tangled, needs to be dried, how much is left, etc.)
SAY GOODBYE TO WET & HELLO TO SUCCESS
Quality prints start with dry filament which is why the Bambu AMS uses a triple-threat moisture defense consisting of an air-tight seal, desiccant, and humidity sensor to monitor and maintain your materials' dryness for successful output.
AMS HAS YOUR BACK
Filament runout is a thing of the past with the Bambu AMS. Its automatic, seamless spool-changing capability uses up every millimeter of filament and moves on to the next spool without missing a beat. Reduce filament waste and promote energy efficiency with the Automatic Material System.
AUTOMATIC ID
If using Bambu Lab filaments, the Bambu Lab AMS can read the RFID labels associated with those filaments to automatically identify the material and its ideal print settings.
Manual configuration is available in Bambu Studio and on the 3D printer for third-party materials.

*Filaments that are too soft, brittle, or abrasive are not compatible with the AMS, such as Bambu PET-CF/ TPU 95A, TPE, PVA (wet), BVOH (wet), and other brand's PET-CF/GF, PA-CF/GF, PAHT-CF/GF, etc. If you prefer to use cardboard spools, we highly recommend using a spool adapter, such as the Hydra AMS, to reduce the risk of slippage and trapped debris in the AMS.
FAQ
Does an RFID reader mean it’s a closed ecosystem?
No, the AMS is compatible with most filaments out there.
- RFID is there to boost the user experience with Bamu filament; For example, you could put on four Bambu spools in random order and the AMS could recognize them automatically. For those filaments without the RFID, you must configure color and material type in the slicer or on the touch screen.
There are four slots on an AMS, why do you say 4x4 colors?
You can hook up to 4 AMS to a single printer with an accessory called an AMS hub, so it is up to 4x4, or 16 colors or materials.
Is there a drier in the AMS?
No. Given its meticulously engineered airtight structure, there is no requirement for a drier in the AMS. By meticulous design, this refers to the box, the tube, and the connector on the AMS, printer, and everything in between. The AMS features two slots capable of holding two bags of desiccant, ensuring the system remains dry for a prolonged period. Once the desiccant is exhausted, the humidity sensor will issue a warning to replace it.
Which Bambu Lab 3D printers are compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS?
The Bambu Lab AMS is compatible with the Bambu Lab X1, Bambu Lab X1 Carbon, Bambu Lab X1E, Bambu Lab P1S, and Bambu Lab P1P.
Is the Bambu Lab A1 Series compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS?
No. The Bambu Lab A1 and Bambu Lab A1 Mini are NOT compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS. They are only compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS Lite.
Can I use the Bambu Lab AMS with other 3D printers?
No, we do not recommend using the Bambu Lab AMS with other 3D printers. While it is possible, it will require a lot of reconfiguring that is not supported and could potentially lead to damage to both the Bambu Lab AMS and a non-Bambu Lab 3D printer.
Can I use cardboard spools with the Bambu Lab AMS?
A cardboard spool adapter is highly recommended when using cardboard spool filament on the Bambu AMS. If not adapter is used, issues may pop up during use.
What cardboard spool adapters are available for the Bambu AMS?
The Hydra AMS is a popular spool adapter available for the Bambu Lab AMS.
What spool sizes does the Bambu Lab AMS support?
Bambu Lab AMS is compatible with spools that are between 50 to 68mm in width and between 197 to 202mm in diameter.
- If your spool of filament has material that surpasses the diameter of the spool, we suggest either printing that material on another printer or removing just enough of it until that filament is smaller than the diameter of the spool.
What materials are compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS?
See tech specs for the list of compatible and non-compatible 3D printer filaments.
